Ready, Steady, ROW!
Sea rowing in weston-super-marE
Want to get out more, meet new friends, improve your health and wellbeing, and see what rowing on the sea is like? Think about joining Weston’s Cornish Pilot Gig Club (Weston Gig Club for short). Come for the sport or simply for the fun of it.
…
Visit our FAQ page to find useful answers to all of your gig-rowing questions. Do you need previous experience? Do you have to be able to swim? What’s the cost? Read our FAQ to find out. If your question isn’t answered, let us know and we’ll add it to the page.
How to join the club
Read our FAQ, then visit our Application Form page. We’ll then be in touch to get you started with a practice row, or a ‘just-as-a-passenger’ trip, so you can see if you like it (spoiler alert: you will!). You can then decide if you’d like to join the club.
THE WORLD CHAMPS: Isles of Scilly 2025
Weston Gig Club is sending its first boat and crews to compete in the World Pilot Gig Championships from 2-4 May 2025, on the Isles of Scilly. Fancy going yourself in 2026? Join the club today.

Club MEETING POINT
Depending on tides and crew and gig availability we meet at one of two places:
Weston Bay yacht club and launch from nearby pontoon
or
Royal sands container and launch from Weston beach
Weston Bay yacht club/pontoon
The yacht club where we store our equipment is at BS23 4XU (What3words rested.tame,tunes). On entering the beach at Uphill go left and drive along the sand for approx 30 seconds where you should see the club. However be aware due to tides and local conditions you might not be able to park by club.
The pontoon is approx a further 30 seconds walk from the club ( what 3 words link.deeply, bland)
Royal Sands container/Weston beach
Recommend park at Royal Sands beach (what3words stored.votes.maple) advise the parking attendants you are with the gig club to park for free. Then walk across the road to meet us at the container (what3words lame.pretty/minus). As can be seen in the photo the container is on beach lawns hidden behind toilet block and petanque court! We need to collect the gig from the container and launch it from the beach near where park the car.
EMAIL US
The best way to contact the club is via email using this online form. The club has charitable status and is run by trustees and a committee, all giving their time voluntarily, so email is the best way for your message to not slip through the net. We look forward to hearing from you.
